IDUN Build #3 — Flashing & Config and more to make the title longer

Journal The IDUN Cartridge Build Entry 3 of 3

With the board "built", the last mile is software. Three steps and the cart comes alive.

Flashing the firmware

Grab the latest firmware image and write it to the cart over the C64's serial link. The updater checks the version and refuses to downgrade — a nice guard against bricking a fresh build.

Loading the SD card

Drop a few .d64 images onto a FAT32 card and slot it in. The menu reads the directory on the fly, so there's no re-flashing to add software later.

Folder layout

Keep games and demos in separate folders — the browser remembers your last directory, which saves a lot of scrolling.

First boot

Plugged it into the C64, flipped the switch — and got the menu on the first try.

It works. The freezer, the fast loader, SD browsing — all live. Worth every minute with the iron.
